The Tanah Abang Pickpocket That Went Viral On Social Media Has Been Arrested While In Action With A Gang From Lampung

JAKARTA – After fleeing for several days, the Tanah Abang Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit managed to apprehend a pickpocket in public transportation (angkot), with the initials FI (45). The perpetrator's previous action went viral on social media when the victim caught him. However, at that time the perpetrator managed to escape.

Tanah Abang Metro Police Chief Kompol Haris Kurniawan said the pickpockets were specialists from the Lampung group. They are grouped with three people who have their respective roles.

"FI is the main perpetrator who took the cellphone. While the others pretended to cough to divert the victim," said Commissioner Haris Kurniawan to VOI, Tuesday, March 29.

While carrying out the pickpocketing action, the FI suspects were caught by the victims named Esteria and Afhal on Jalan Purification Raya, Bendungan Hilir Village, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. However, the suspect FI managed to escape and fled during the incident.

The victim then reported to the Tanah Abang Metro Police. After receiving the victim's report and the video of the pickpocket going viral on social media, members of the Tanah Abang Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit immediately gave chase.

"FI was arrested again in the Tanah Abang Market area when they were about to carry out a pickpocketing action again. Meanwhile, the initial suspects R and T are still on the DPO and are being hunted by members in the field," he said.

As a result of his actions, the suspect FI was charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 53 of the Criminal Code.

Previously, it was reported that there was a video of pickpocketing in the Tanah Abang area. The perpetrator was caught by the victim while trying to take things in the angkot, Wednesday, March 23.

"This is the pickpocket's backpack, when we caught him he wanted to take my cellphone in the angkot. Got the bag, he ran away when he was choked by Afdal," said the victim in the video recording.
