JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR RI Sukamta asked the government to evaluate the total security policy and approach in Papua, which focuses on improving the security system for security officers and civilians as well as efforts to weaken the strength of the KKB.

"There needs to be a new approach to completely solve the problems in Papua. There must be an increase in the work of the intelligence team to accurately map the evolving social, political, and security dynamics," said Sukamta in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 29.

He said this was related to the attack by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Nduga, Papua, which left two TNI soldiers dead and eight others injured on Saturday, March 26.

He assessed that the incident was very concerning because KKB attacks had become more frequent in the last 3 months.

According to him, since the beginning of 2022, 5 TNI members and 8 civilians have died as a result of KKB attacks, and terror acts are becoming more frequent, even using stronger weapons.

"This indicates that there is an increase in the KKB's combat capability. This means that the government's efforts with various approaches to overcome KKB so far can be said to be ineffective," he said.

Sukamta assessed that the handling of the KKB was certainly not the same as the way to deal with the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) in Aceh or the terrorists by Densus 88.

According to him, there are more complex issues in Papua that require comprehensive and complete policies to solve all problems.

"I feel sorry for the TNI and Polri soldiers in the field if there is no clear policy improvement immediately," he said.

He considered that the problems in Papua had been going on for too long so there should be more serious and thorough attention so that the problems in Papua could be resolved immediately.

According to him, the government needs to make a priority scale based on the objectives in the constitution, namely protecting citizens, advancing public welfare and educating the nation's life.
