"On this first day, the meeting will focus on discussing the issue of Increasing the Role of Audit in Combating Corruption, which we will push into High Level Principles (HLP) in efforts to eradicate global corruption," said KPK Deputy Chair Lili Pintauli Siregar, Monday, March 28.

With the opening of the first meeting, he said, it marked the start of discussions on efforts to eradicate corruption by G20 member countries.

Deputy for Information and Data at KPK Mochamad Hadiyana as Chair of ACWG explained further that audit is a central element in the accountability and integrity system so that audit institutions, accountants, and private auditors have a key role in preventing and eradicating corruption.

From the discussion, Hadiyana said, efforts will be made to encourage the empowerment of public and private sector audit bodies to fight corruption effectively; strengthening the role and capacity of public sector auditing bodies and internal auditors to identify, prevent and investigate corruption where necessary.

Next, discuss how to encourage the private audit profession to play an active role in identifying, preventing, and reporting corruption; development of a strong framework for following up and implementing audit findings related to corruption.

There are still discussions on strengthening cooperation between auditing bodies, internal audit, anti-corruption/law enforcement agencies, and other related institutions in eradicating corruption; and promoting the use of information and communication technology to enhance the role of audit, including transparency and accountability in managing public finances.
