ACEH - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Aceh Representative went to the field to check the number of Rohingya refugees who are still in Aceh.

After going around, Komnas HAM reported that there were 155 Rohingya refugees in Aceh. With details, the locations are spread out in 41 BLK Lhokseumawe and 114 people in Bireuen Regency.

"We have reviewed the location of temporary shelters and met with various parties including the Lhokseumawe City Government, Bireuen Government, UNHCR representatives, IOM and volunteers," said the head of the Aceh Human Rights Commission, Sepriady Utama, in Banda Aceh, Monday, March 28.

Sepriady said that currently there are 41 Rohingya refugees - Muslim ethnic in Myanmar - remaining in BLK Lhokseumawe, including 11 adult women, 11 adult men, three boys and 16 girls. "Meanwhile, the total number of refugees who fled from the shelter was 67 people," he said, quoting Antara.

Then, said Utama, there were as many as 114 Rohingya refugees who were stranded on March 6, 2022 in Bireuen Regency, they are now placed in the Hall of the Term District Head Office, Bireuen.

These 114 Rohingya refugees consist of 44 women and 70 men with a classification of 40 children and 74 adults, and 33 of these children are without assistance. next by UNHCR and IOM," said Sepriady.

He said that currently there was a problem of uncertainty regarding the placement of Rohingya refugees to the main shelter location, considering that those who were placed in the Lhokseumawe and Bireuen BLKs were only temporary and in emergency conditions.

In fact, he said, currently there is a tendency of resistance in accepting temporary placements in the regions. "For this reason, it is necessary to clarify the mechanism for receiving, placing, and handling in an orderly and well-coordinated manner by the government," he said.

He said that the Rohingya who continued to enter Indonesian territory, especially the waters of Aceh, allegedly occurred because of the involvement of international network smugglers (smugglers), and already knew the condition of Indonesian waters so that they were easy to operate.

The parties, he said, then made the Rohingya refugees victims of crimes such as human smuggling or human trafficking and other criminal acts.

"Similar crimes increase when refugees are being handled in temporary shelters. Therefore, it is necessary to increase vigilance, prevention and law enforcement," he said.
