PURWOKERTO - Tourism observers from Jenderal Sudirman University (Unsoed) Chusmeru reminded the importance of booster vaccination or the third dose for people who want to travel.

"It is very important for people who want to travel to be provided with booster vaccines," he said in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Sunday, March 27.

Chusmeru explained that booster dose vaccination needs to be done for three reasons.

"First, because entering the fasting month, a strong immune system is needed to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, which is not over yet. While traveling during the fasting month is very important to maintain endurance from the potential transmission of COVID-19," he said.

Second, he said, during the Idul Fitri holiday, it was feared that there would be public euphoria at the tourist attraction.

"Moreover, the government has issued a policy of allowing people to go home for the community. Tourist objects and attractions in the area will certainly be visited by many people," he said, quoted by Antara.

For this reason, booster vaccinations are needed to protect the public in the midst of the euphoria of the trip.

Third, he added, tourism activities will always involve tourists, tourism workers, and the local community.

"A booster vaccine will be able to create community immunity. When there is interaction between tourists and tourism workers and the community, it can reduce the risk of being exposed to COVID-19," he said.

Therefore, according to him, the government needs to encourage the booster vaccination program.

"However, even though they have received a booster vaccine, the community is expected to maintain health protocols when in tourist attractions, especially wearing masks and avoiding crowds," he said.

The lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Unsoed said that tourists still have to improve discipline to implement health protocols, even though there is currently an easing of travel rules.

"Local governments and tourism sector entrepreneurs also need to be vigilant. Control of tourist behavior is still needed," he said.

The use of masks, social distancing and avoiding crowds, he said, need to be reminded to tourists.
