Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts, Sprays Hot Material Up To 1.000 Meters

JAKARTA - Mount Anak Krakatau spewed hot material or volcanic ash up to 1.000 meters high on Thursday, March 24, at around 11.00 a.m. The ash column is observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the south.

Citing the site updated by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, Magma Indonesia, Mount Anak Krakatau has erupted twice today.

"This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 45 mm and a duration of 0 seconds," Jumono wrote on the website, Thursday, March 24.

The website created by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) also reported that the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau occurred at 09.12 a.m.

The eruption on Thursday morning was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 40 mm and a duration of 0 seconds. "The ash column was observed to be white with moderate to thick intensity towards the southeast," the report said.

During 2022, Magma Indonesia stated that the number of eruptions of Mount Anak Krakatau was recorded at 13 times.
