SERANG - As many as 14 people were reported injured after experiencing a traffic accident on the Tangerang - Merak toll road section KM 64B towards Tangerang, Wednesday, March 23, at around 07.05 WIB.

Dirlantas Polda Banten Kombes Pol Budi Mulyanto said the accident involved two vehicles, namely public transportation number A 1940 FJ driver on behalf of Marsum (31) resident of Cipocok Jaya, Serang and Mitsubishi truck vehicle number BK 8678 ML, driver on behalf of Suparlik (30) resident Mount Malela, Simalungun, North Sumatra.

"The accident occurred allegedly because angkot drivers did not anticipate a safe distance when driving," said Budi Mulyanto in a written statement, Wednesday, March 23.

Budi explained that the accident started when the truck passed from Merak to Tangerang in the left lane. When at KM 64B, continued Budi, the truck moved to the right lane to overtake the vehicle. Then an angkot came and hit the back of the truck. Budi suspects that angkot drivers are unable to anticipate the speed and safe distance between vehicles while driving. 14 people in the angkot were immediately evacuated to Sari Asih Serang Hospital.

"The first action taken by the Ditlantas Polda Banten officers was to evacuate the victim to the hospital, after carrying out the evacuation the officers carried out crime scene investigations, recorded and checked the identities of witnesses. Securing evidence for further investigation and coordinating with PJR officers from the Korlantas Polri and the ranks of PT Marga Mandala Sakti toll road officers," explained Budi.

Budi also appealed to motorists on toll roads to be oriented towards safety and driving safety so as to reduce the potential for accidents.

"We urge drivers to be disciplined and obey warning signs, keep a safe distance, concentrate on driving so they don't lose control," he concluded.
