No Delay, Puan Maharani: So It Is Our Responsibility To Make The 2024 Election A Success

JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, emphasized that the date of the 2024 Simultaneous Election had been agreed upon by the DPR together with the government and election organizers, namely February 14, 2024.

Therefore, Puan invites the entire community to make the five-year democratic party a success. According to him, the 2024 election is a democratic tool to absorb people's aspirations and become a shared responsibility.

"It is our collective responsibility to make the 2024 election a success as a quality democratic tool in voicing the people's will," said Puan through her personal Twitter account, Wednesday, March 16.

Puan hinted that there would be no delay for the 2024 General Election as it was proposed to be postponed for the next two years. He emphasized that the DPR RI is currently focusing on managing all the stages together with the election organizers.

"For this reason, as the leader of the DPR, I focus on the stages of conducting the election, starting from budget matters, regulations and technical preparations. Because in the current COVID-19 situation, the implementation of the election is of course different," said Puan. Puan admitted that she took lessons from the 2019 election. The DPR, she said, was evaluating the obstacles or obstacles to holding the election so that it would not happen again in the 2024 election.

"Thus, the implementation of the democratic party can take place for the better," he said.

The chairman of the DPP PDIP assesses that if the Indonesian people simultaneously want the election to continue according to the rules in the legislation, then the 2024 election will be held as it should be. "I believe, by working together, we can realize an election that runs as it should," concluded Puan.

Previously, Puan Maharani opposed the statement by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan who claimed data on people's aspirations regarding the postponement of the 2024 election. Puan said her party also had its own data regarding people's aspirations regarding elections. However, according to Puan, the data held by PDIP does not include the public's perception of the postponement of the 2024 election. "We from PDIP have our own data and it does not include the data that was submitted," said Puan at the DPR Building, Tuesday, March 15.

Puan added that the data held by PDIP is also "big". However, he did not continue the meaning of the large PDIP data.

"Our data is also big," he said.
