PEKANBARU - The Pekanbaru Environment and Hygiene Service (DLHK) has set a policy of a maximum fine of IDR 5 million for those who throw garbage carelessly and on time to create order in society.

"To oversee this, even DLHK has now reactivated law enforcement teams in each sub-district to monitor illegal waste disposal", said Head of DLHK Pekanbaru, Hendra Afriyadi, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, March 15.

He said that this team has been active since last week with 15 people whose job it is to supervise in 15 sub-districts in Pekanbaru.

This team is tasked with supervising the community so that they do not throw garbage in any place or outside the designated area. They also impose sanctions on residents who are caught littering.

According to him, there are fines, warnings to fines based on the weight of the waste they dispose of. Fines range from IDR 250,000 to IDR 5 million depending on the collection of waste.

"The sanctions for those found to have violated will be enforced by applicable regulations in the form of fines", he said.

He did not deny that currently there are still many piles of garbage on the sides of main roads and residential areas.

"The garbage has actually been transported by a third party or a waste transportation operator. However, people return to throwing it in the same place when the garbage has been transported. So the impression is that the existing waste is not transported", he said.

According to him, the behavior of the Pekanbaru people who are not disciplined in waste disposal has made the city difficult in terms of handling waste transportation so that it looks dirty even though transportation management has been carried out by a third party.
