Message To PBNU, Miftachul Akhyar Asked To Continue Leading MUI Because Its Role Is Considered To Be Very Much Needed

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. KH Utang Ranuwijaya asked the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) to allow KH Miftachul Akhyar to lead the MUI.

"We ask for understanding from NU officials and also seniors at NU to allow KH Miftachul Akhyar to remain the General Chair of the MUI, because his role is really needed," he said in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, March 12.

"We strongly object to his resignation as chairman of the MUI," he added.

He said that KH Miftachul Akhyar had been the General Chair of MUI before becoming Rais Aam PBNU and proved capable of leading the ulema assembly.

With the leadership of KH Miftachul Akhyar, he continued, MUI was able to carry out its role as a government partner and guardian of the people.

"He is very capable in these two fields, and has extraordinary capacity. We hope he can remain at MUI until the end of his term of office even though he has to share as the General Chair of MUI and as Rais Aam PBNU," he said.

​KH Miftachul Akhyar sent a letter of resignation as General Chair of MUI because he wanted to focus on carrying out his duties as Rais Aam PBNU.

Deputy Chairman of MUI Anwar Abbas also hopes that PBNU will allow KH Miftachul Akhyar to continue to lead the MUI.
