Dozens Of Houses Damaged Due To Land Movements In Sukabumi

SUKABUMI - Dozens of houses in Nyalindung Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java were damaged due to the impact of the ground movement disaster, so the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPVD) established an emergency post around the disaster site.

"We set up a command post to accelerate disaster management in Nyalindung Village, Pasirsuren Village, Palabuhanratu District to anticipate the loss of life," said Sukabumi Regency BPBD Chief Executive Wawan Godawan as quoted by Antara, Monday, March 7.

Based on information compiled from BPBD officials in Sukabumi Regency, as of Monday (7/3) night, there were about 30 houses affected by the landslide.

"And it is possible that the number will continue to grow, because the locations affected by the landslide continue to expand," he said.

Wawan explained that the existence of this ground movement disaster emergency post was to speed up information on the development of the community's situation, update the amount of damage and to accelerate the provision of assistance.

As of Monday night, officers assisted by elements of the TNI, Polri and volunteers were still collecting data on the number of affected residents. In addition, in the near future BPBD will also establish evacuation centers for residents whose houses are affected.

For the time being, residents whose houses were heavily damaged and could no longer be inhabited, he said, fled to their relatives' homes and there were also places of worship such as the taklim assembly.

"The land movement disaster in Sukabumi Regency was not only in this location, there were still several sub-districts that were also hit by the same disaster, but the worst was in Nyalindung Village," said Wawan.
