Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi's Bribe-taker Will Soon Be Tried

JAKARTA - Four suspects for bribing the Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi, namely the Director of PT MAM Energindo, Ali Amril; private party, Lai Bui Min; Director of Bintang Rayatri City, Suryadi; and the Head of Rawalumbu sub-district, Makhfud Saifudin, will soon undergo trial.

Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, said the trial would soon be conducted after investigators submitted the files belonging to the four suspects to the public prosecutor (JPU). This handover took place today, Friday, March 4th.

"The case files of the suspects for giving bribes in the case of alleged corruption in the procurement of goods and services as well as the auction of positions at the Bekasi City Government have been declared complete. Investigators have handed over the suspects AA et al to the KPK Prosecutor's team along with the evidence," Ali said in a written statement, Friday, March 4th.

Furthermore, the detention will be carried out for 20 days until March 23. Meanwhile, the prosecutor will draw up an indictment and submit it to the Corruption Court.

However, Ali did not specify the court that would hear this case. "Developments will be communicated," he stressed.

"It is certain that within 14 working days, the indictment and case files will be immediately transferred to the Corruption Crime Court for trial," he said.

Previously reported, Rahmat Effendi or Pepen along with eight other people were named by the KPK as suspects for alleged bribery in the procurement of goods and services as well as the auction of positions in the Bekasi City Government.

Pepen with the Secretary of the Investment Office and PTSP, M Bunyamin; Head of Jatisari Village, Mulyadi; Jatisampurna Sub-district Head, Wahyudin; and the Head of the Bekasi City Housing, Settlement and Land Office, Jumhana Lutfi, were named as recipients of bribes.

Meanwhile, the four suspected givers are the Director of PT MAM Energindo, Ali Amril; private party, Lai Bui Min; Director of Bintang Rayatri City, Suryadi; and the sub-district head of Rawalumbu, Makhfud Saifudin.
