ACEH BARAT - The West Aceh Regency Government through the Housing and Settlement Service in 2021 has rehabilitated 303 housing units spread across five villages in the district.

"The rehabilitation of the 303 houses is an effort by the local government to create a city without slums," said Head of the West Aceh District Housing and Settlement Service Syamsul Rizal in Meulaboh, Antara, Wednesday, February 23.

The locations for the rehabilitation of the 303 housing units are respectively Blang Beurangdang Village, Drien Rampak Village, Rundeng Village, Panggong Village, and Back Village, Johan Pahlawan District, West Aceh Regency.

Syamsul Rizal said that in order to carry out these activities, the government had allocated a budget of more than Rp. 6 billion, to rehabilitate hundreds of houses with a rehabilitation cost of Rp. 20 million each/house unit.

The financial assistance of IDR 20 million, he said, was carried out on a self-managed basis with an allocation of IDR 17.5 million for the purchase of building materials and IDR 2.5 million as the cost of handyman services.

“So, people do not receive money. The community only receives benefits because it is self-managed," said Samsul Rizal, adding.

He also explained that the rehabilitation program for 303 housing units in West Aceh Regency was a Kotaku program, as one of the government's strategic efforts through the Directorate General of Human Settlements, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, to accelerate the handling of slum settlements in urban areas.

The Kotaku program in its implementation uses a collaboration platform between the central government, provincial governments, cities/districts, communities and other stakeholders by positioning the community and district/city governments as the main actors (masters).

The general objective of this program, he said, is to increase access to infrastructure and basic services in urban slums, and to prevent the emergence of new slums in order to support the realization of livable, productive, and sustainable urban settlements.

The implementation of this program is also in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of PUPR Number 14 of 2018 concerning the Prevention and Improvement of the Quality of Slum Housing and Slum Settlements.
