SITUBONDO - An elementary school student in Situbondo, East Java, has a fever after being injected with a vaccine. The student's left leg was also weak and difficult to move.

The student with the initials HMS is a student of SD Negeri 9 Patokan, Kota District, Situbondo Regency. Currently HMS is being treated at RSUD dr. Abdoer Rahem.

Head of RT 01/RW 04 Patokan Village, Holilul Rahman, said that HMS was injected with a vaccine at his school on Thursday 17 February. After three days HMS just felt a fever and part of his body was weak.

"According to the family, after returning from school after being vaccinated, HMS complained of fever and dizziness. And last night he couldn't move his left leg. Today he was taken to the hospital," Holil told reporters, Tuesday, February 22.

Knowing the condition of HMS who was lying sick, at that time Holil asked his family to immediately take him to the hospital for treatment.

At first the family refused on the grounds that they had no money. However, after being assured that he would receive free treatment, HMS was finally taken to the hospital by ambulance.

"HMS is actually from a poor family, that's why at first they didn't want to be taken to the hospital. But after the community health center provided a guarantee for free treatment, they finally wanted to be taken to the hospital," he said.

Until now, he is in the emergency room at RSUD dr. Abdoer Rahem. The team of doctors are still conducting intensive examinations, considering that HMS' left leg is still weak and difficult to move.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Situbondo District Health Office, Dwi Herman Susilo, confirmed that the elementary school student is currently undergoing medical treatment at the hospital.

"Regarding the illness, whether it is related to the vaccine, we cannot conclude because it requires an in-depth examination by the medical team. All costs for treatment are borne by the government," he said.
