It Took Almost 5 Years To Know The Cause Of The Flood In Wiyung District, Surabaya

JAKARTA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi said that the flooding that occurred on Jalan Raya Menganti, Wiyung District, Monday, February 21 last night had been going on since 2017.

"There is an overflow of water from housing, such as Dian Istana, Bukit Darmo, and some from the Graha Family," said Eri in Surabaya, East Java, Tuesday, February 22, quoted from Antara.

Heavy rains that flushed the city of Surabaya from Monday (21/2) afternoon until evening, caused a number of areas in the City of Heroes to be inundated, one of which was in the Wiyung area.

The mayor knows that in the alley of the residents' houses there is also a puddle of water. Meanwhile, the puddle leads to the Kali Makmur River.

"But because the river was full, it couldn't accommodate it and there was a flood," he said.

When he checked the flood in Wiyung on Monday (22/2) night, his party asked the Surabaya Fire and Rescue Service (PMKP) to bring in several tanker trucks to draw water in the alleys of residents' houses to dispose of the water.

"This means that in 2022, we already know the problem. Therefore, the water in the housing must be locked by making sluice gates and bozem to regulate the water that will enter the Kali Makmur River," he said.

Even if there is an overflow of water like today, Eri asked the Surabaya PMKP Office to use a PMKP car. Because, this is one of the speed of the City of Surabaya to resolve the inundation.

"I had discussions with residents and they said that from 2017 to 2019 it was flooded because of heavy rain until dawn. But earlier we also struggled with residents to open the channel and finally we were able to finish it within two hours," he said.

Not only that, he asked the Regional Apparatus (PD) at the Surabaya City Government to coordinate making floodgates and bozem.

"This is a lesson for friends, if it has happened since 2017 it will be closed there, there must be tolerance, it should not be thrown away immediately. But we must take care of each other," he said.

Therefore, the Mayor asked all his staff to collaborate and work together in dealing with problems, especially the problem of flooding that occurs continuously on Jalan Raya Menganti Wiyung.
