Police Case Hits Driver Using Helmet When ODOL Demonstration In Kudus Ends, Handshake Signs Of Peace

KUDUS - Kudus Police Traffic Unit, Central Java Regional Police apologized for the beating of one of the members during a truck driver demonstration at the Transportation Service Office, Thursday, February 17.

"We as Kasatlantas Polres Kudus express our apologies for the incident committed by our members against brother Slamet Riyanto while securing the delivery of the aspirations of the truck drivers. We also apologize to the public," said Head of the Kudus Police Traffic Unit AKP Galuh Pandu Pandega in Kudus, Antara , Thursday, February 18th.

The member of the Kudus Polres Satlantas who carried out the beating also apologized directly to Slamet Riyanto in the presence of the Kudus Polres Satlantas and a number of truck drivers, including the attorney for truck driver Slamet Riyadi who accompanied the demonstration at the Kudus Dishub Office.

Unscrupulous members of the Kudus Police Satlantas allegedly beat the driver with a helmet while holding a demonstration in front of the Kudus Regency Transportation Service Office on Jalan HM Subchan ZE, Kota District.

Slamet Riyanto, who is a truck driver who took part in the action to convey aspirations at the Kudus Dishub Office, also received an apology from Brigadier M Fernanda along with other members.

"I accept their apology. This case has also been resolved amicably without having to go through legal channels," he said.

When met during the demonstration, Slamet Riyanto admitted that he had a small wound on the left side of his head and at that time the wound was still visible.

Riyanto also admitted that he had not done anything anarchic in the act of expressing his aspiration to reject government policies related to the prohibition of trucks over dimension and overloading (ODOL).

The incident was allegedly due to a misunderstanding when he was about to break up the driver with the police, who said a member was about to be hit. But he thought he was recording the incident. Based on the 12-second video footage spread on social media, a man in an army uniform can be seen throwing a helmet at a passing truck driver.
