COVID-19 Patients At The Galang Island Hospital Batam Increase To 411 People

TANJUNGPINANG - The Special Task Force for Handling the Return of Indonesian Migrant Workers (Satgassus PMI) said the number of patients being treated at the COVID-19 Special Hospital for Infection (RSKI) on Galang Island, Batam, increased to 411 people.

The 411 people consisted of 197 Indonesian migrant workers, 212 Batam residents and 2 foreign nationals.

"Probable Omicron are 79 patients," said PMI Task Force Commander Brigadier General Jimmy Ramoz Manalu in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, reported by Antara, Thursday, February 17.

Jimmy said that out of a total of 411 patients being treated, 271 were male and 139 were female.

This number causes an occupancy rate of 89.34 percent of the total 460 beds that have been prepared to treat COVID-19 patients.

"In general, the condition of the Galang Island RSKI is safe and under control," he said.

Jimmy said that the recent increase in COVID-19 cases indicated that the public should be more vigilant and re-increase the discipline of health protocols.

According to him, the current number of patients is dominated by the people of Batam City, which is an industrial and tourism city with the most dense population compared to other regencies/cities in the Riau Islands Province (Kepri).

He said the wave of COVID-19 cases of the Omicron variant was a real threat to all elements of society, because the rate of spread was faster than the Delta variant.

"The support of all parties to fight the spread of Omicron must be consistent and measurable, because this is our shared responsibility," said Brigadier General Jimmy.
