National Police Chief General Sigit Promises To Be Transparent Regarding The Handling Of The Wadas And Parimo Cases

DENPASAR - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized the transparent handling of clashes between officers and residents in Wadas, Central Java, including the shooting case in Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi.

General Sigit emphasized that the Police were transparent about the incident. The National Police also opened space for Komnas HAM to carry out investigations.

"I think we have been transparent from the start and that is my commitment. We send a team, we open space for investigations carried out by Komnas friends. Of course we will process the results if there are recommendations or findings related to violations that have occurred," said Sigit while monitoring the acceleration of the COVID-19 vaccination at Discovery Mall, Kuta, Bali, Wednesday, February 16.

The National Police Chief emphasized that the handling at Wadas, including in Parimo, was not aimed at hurting the public. Police called Sigit must take steps to prevent clashes.

"What is clear is that what the Police did was not meant to hurt the community. But more so in what conditions to avoid a higher risk of clashes. So then security measures must be taken. However, we will follow up if there are findings, " he said.

As previously reported, the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) asked the Central Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Ahmad Luthfi to give strict sanctions to his members who committed violence against residents in Wadas Village, Purworejo, Central Java.

This is because Komnas HAM found evidence of human rights violations by the police during the refusal to measure the andesite mining area in the village.

"Ask the Regional Police Chief and his staff to give sanctions to the officers who are proven to have committed violence," said Komnas HAM Commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara in his statement, Tuesday, February 15.

Komnas HAM also asked the Central Java Police not to directly provide hoax stamps to social media accounts that report directly in the field.

"And ordered the Head of Propam to carry out inspections and enforce sanctions on personnel proven to have committed violence against residents," said Beka.

"The police must also return the goods and equipment of residents that are still confiscated," he continued.

Beka said Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Ahmad Luthfi had responded to Komnas HAM's request. Inspector General Luthfi, he said, also immediately ordered his staff to return the residents' belongings on Monday, February 14.

"The Indonesian National Human Rights Commission will continue to monitor the entire process of solving problems in Wadas," said Beka.
