SURABAYA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) replaced a motorcycle belonging to an online motorcycle taxi driver from Surabaya that was stolen while working some time ago.

The motorbike was handed over to the victim, Wahyu Novi Arini, by the Head of Surabaya Police, Kombes Akhmad Yusep Gunawan.

"Hopefully this assistance from Mr. President Jokowi can be useful for returning to work hard during the COVID-19 pandemic," he said when handing over motorbike assistance to victims, quoted by Antara, Monday, February 14.

The victim is Wahyu Novi Arini, a resident of Jalan Gogor Surabaya whose motorbike is still on credit with installments of less than five months.

The motorbike belonging to the mother of two was stolen while taking food orders on February 12.

According to the Head of Polrestabes Yusep, President Jokowi was moved by his heart and immediately replaced the victim's motorbike with the same type, while fulfilling the installments which were less than five months old.

He emphasized that it was the duty of the police to hunt down the perpetrators of the theft of the victim's motorbike.

Kombes Yusep promised to hunt down other criminals who have disrupted order and security and are troubling the citizens of this City of Heroes.

"As the Surabaya Police Chief, God willing, I will soon uncover various crimes, including the motorcycle theft that happened to Wahyu and others," he said.

Victim Wahyu Novi Arini works as a tutor, but the COVID-19 pandemic has forced her students to study at home.

He thanked President Jokowi and the Surabaya Police Chief who replaced his motorbike.

"At that time, it was the first time I took a motorcycle taxi and the motorcycle immediately disappeared. Previously, it was my husband who used to take motorcycle taxis. It meant that I wanted to take turns with my husband for additional income," she said.
