Joint SAR Finds Fishing Boat From Sukabumi, But Its Crew Still Disappear

CIANJUR - The joint SAR team finally found a fishing boat from Sukabumi, which was reported to have lost contact in the waters off the southern coast of Cianjur, West Java, in an overturned condition, but officers did not find the crew of the ship suspected of being lost by the waves.

Cianjur Police Chief of Police, AKP Heri said that his party received information regarding the discovery of the KM Putra Cikal 101 ship. However, the crew of the ship has not been found yet, while the ship was found upside down, without any damage.

"The ship has just been found, but the crew has not been found, it is suspected that it was lost in the waves that hit the ship. The ship was found face down in the waters of southern Garut," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, February 14.

His party is still coordinating with a joint team, including the Sukabumi and Garut cross-sector, to search for the crew of the ship led by Nurjaman with several crew members, by combing the south coast.

"We can only try to do sweeps on the outskirts because the sea waves are still high, so it can threaten the safety of the team," he said.

Secretary General of BPBD Cianjur, Rudi Wibowo, said that his party had also received a report regarding the discovery of the wreck of a fishing boat from Sukabumi which was found in the waters of southern Garut, but the crew had not been found, so the search might continue.

"We are still waiting for the coordination of the joint team, because the crew has not been found. We are still alerting volunteers on the south coast to monitor and continue to monitor," he said.

Previously, the Cianjur Police Satpolair, together with the joint SAR team, were still trying to find the fishing boat KM Putra Cikal 101 from Ujung Genteng-Sukabumi which was reported to have lost contact in Karang Cut waters, Sindangbarang District, Cianjur, West Java.

Head of Polair Polres Cianjur, AKP Heri when contacted, said that his party together with a joint team assisted by fishermen, immediately conducted a search after receiving a report regarding a fishing vessel that had lost contact from Sukabumi.

Since the last few weeks, the waves along the south coast are quite high, so that they can threaten the safety of fishermen who force themselves to go to sea. In fact, since a long time ago, it has been urging fishermen not to go to sea because of the peak of the rainy season.
