KPK Hopes Azis Syamsuddin Is Convicted Of Guilty And His Rebuttal Sets Aside By The Judge

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) hopes that former Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Azis Syamsuddin, will be sentenced according to the demands of the public prosecutor (JPU), which is 4 years and 2 months in prison.

This hope was conveyed ahead of the verdict trial that Azis will undergo today or Monday, February 14. The former deputy chairman of the Golkar Party is on trial for alleged bribery in handling cases in Central Lampung.

"KPK hopes that the decision of the panel of judges with the defendant Azis Syamsuddin fully considers all the legal facts and evidence presented by the prosecutor's team," Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Affairs Ali Fikri told reporters, Monday, February 14.

"So that the defendant can be found guilty according to the law as demanded by the prosecutor team," he added.

Not only that, the anti-corruption commission also hopes that the objections that Azis often makes at trial will not be taken into consideration by the judge. Thus, the decisions handed down can be fair and provide a deterrent effect for perpetrators of corruption.

"We also hope that all of the defendants' objections, who do not openly admit their actions, will also be dismissed by the panel of judges," said Ali. As previously reported, the KPK prosecutor demanded Azis for 4 years and 2 months in prison plus a fine of IDR 250 million, subsidiary of 6 months in prison.

This lawsuit was filed because Aziz is suspected of giving bribes worth Rp. 3,099 billion and US$ 36,000, bringing a total of around Rp. 3,619 billion to former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju and advocate Maskur Husain.

In his lawsuit, the KPK prosecutor said that Azis was suspected of giving bribes to take care of the KPK's investigation regarding the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) of the APBN-P Central Lampung Regency for the 2017 Fiscal Year which involved his name and Aliza Gunado.
