JAKARTA - The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of West Kalimantan continues to monitor the development of spills of insoluble liquid or oil in the waters not far from the Karimata Islands Marine Nature Reserve in North Kayong Regency.

"Regarding the possibility of the wastewater entering the Karimata Islands Marine Nature Reserve, which is about 19.3 km away, we are always monitoring the conditions on the ground," said Acting Head of the Conservation Section I Ketapang BKSDA West Kalimantan Bharata Sibabarani, quoted from Antara, Sunday, February 13. .

Bharata said that the BKSDA always monitors conditions in the field by conducting intensive coordination with related parties in North Kayong, especially the Environmental Service which is still in the field, and will participate in the location together.

According to him, if it is proven that the spill from the overturned barge and stranded in the Karimata waters spread to the Karimata Islands Marine Nature Reserve, it will be processed according to applicable law.

"There is a threat of sanctions if later the waste reaches the nature reserve, there will be legal consequences according to the applicable laws and regulations which will also involve the Directorate General of Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry," he said.

For this reason, his party continues to monitor in the field and coordinate with the North Kayong Environmental Service to obtain further information regarding the impact of the barge that was released from the tugboat some time ago.

"The Environment Service has taken samples and sent them to Pontianak but the results have not come out. The agency and related officials have contacted the company that owns the barge so that they are cleaning up waste at sea by involving the community," he explained.
