JAKARTA - The Banda Aceh Search and Rescue (SAR) team evacuated a Filipino citizen, a crew member of a Maltese-flagged tanker, because he was injured in a work accident.

The head of the Banda Aceh National SAR Agency (Basarnas) Budiono in Banda Aceh, Sunday, February 13, said the Filipino citizen who was evacuated on behalf of Liquigan Romeo.

"The person concerned was evacuated due to open wounds on his right shoulder and chest area which caused non-stop bleeding," Budiono said.

Budiono said the victim was a crew member of the MT Sloman Hermes tanker who was sailing from the Philippines to India. The victim had a work accident in the engine room, resulting in bleeding.

"The request for evacuation was conveyed by the captain of MT Sloman Hermes via electronic mail on Saturday, February 12, at 21.00 WIB. From this information, the SAR team prepared an evacuation plan," Budiono said.

Furthermore, the SAR team coordinated with the tanker regarding the evacuation operation. The SAR team moved from Ulee Lheue Harbor using the KN Kresna ship to evacuate victims on Sunday, February 13, at around 00.30 WIB.

"About an hour later, KN Kresna docked on the MT Sloman Hermes ship and evacuated the victims. The evacuation point is in the Bengal Strait, the waters between Aceh Island, Aceh Besar Regency, and Weh Island, Sabang City," said Budiono.

Prior to being evacuated to the KN Kresna SAR ship, Liquigan Romeo underwent a health and COVID-19 examination as well as complete immigration documents.

After being declared as having no problems, the person concerned was raised by a SAR ship and then taken to the Port of Ulee Lheue, a distance of about seven nautical miles.

Budiono said the process of evacuating the Malahayati Port Health Office (KKP) officers, the Navy, Customs and Excise, the police, Syahbandar Ulee Lheue officers, and other relevant agencies.

"Arriving at Ulee Lheue Port, the victim was evacuated to the Zainoel Abidin Hospital in Banda Aceh using an ambulance for further medical treatment," Budiono said.
