Bandung City Government Closes 3 Highways On Weekends Prevent Omicron Surge

JAKARTA - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has imposed road closures at three points where crowds often occur, to prevent the spike in cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Head of the Transportation Control and Order Division of the Bandung City Transportation Service, Asep Kuswara, said that the road closures were only carried out every Saturday and Sunday.

"The closure will start at 18.00 WIB until 24.00 WIB, that is for the closure of Sunday night and Monday night," said Asep, at Bandung City Hall, West Java, quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 10.

Asep explained that three highway points were closed, namely Jalan Lengkong Kecil, Jalan Tamblong-Asia-Africa, and Jalan Dipatiukur.

The three points, according to him, are places that often experience crowds of residents on weekends. Especially on Jalan Dipatiukur, according to him, the location has many street vendors who invite the public.

"So we essentially closed access to the location of the crowd. The closure was only until 24.00 WIB, because in the early hours of the morning people seemed to have gone to sleep," he said.

At these points, according to him, personnel from the Transportation Service as well as the TNI and Polri are alerted to prevent people from breaking through the road closures.

"This road closure is carried out in accordance with the Ministry of Home Affairs related to PPKM Level 3, so this adjusts the situation until when the closure is carried out," he said.
