JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo emphasized the important role of the G20 multilateral cooperation forum in building a world health architecture.

"The role of the G20 is very important in building a world health architecture, including in encouraging health financing support for developing countries," said President Jokowi in his 2022 ACT-A Campaign Speech released by the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel as reported by Antara, Wednesday, February 9.

ACT-A is a collaborative initiative launched by WHO in April 2020 to accelerate development, production, and equitable access to COVID-19 drugs, diagnostic tools and vaccines.

According to President Jokowi, in order to build and strengthen the world's health architecture, there are still some improvements that must be made, especially in terms of strengthening developing countries which he considers to receive special attention.

"At the same time developing countries must be empowered as a solution. Developing countries must be part of the supply chain for medicines, vaccines and health equipment," said President Jokowi.

"For this reason, collaboration, research, investment, and technology transfer are absolutely necessary. Solidarity and cooperation are our keys to getting out of the pandemic and building a more 'resilient' world architecture," he said.

Therefore, President Jokowi conveyed that Indonesia, in its role as Chair of the G20, made strengthening the world health architecture one of the priority agendas.

"The world must be more prepared and more responsive to the health crisis. Every country must have the same opportunity to prepare for the threat of the next pandemic," said the President.

In his speech, the President appreciated ACT-A, which he called an important aspect of the world's health architecture, as well as tangible evidence of the benefits of multilateralism.
