YOGYAKARTA - Dozens of street vendors (PKL) cart drivers in the tourist area of Malioboro complained about their fate to the Yogyakarta City Government because they no longer have jobs after placing street vendors on Malioboro Terrace 1 and 2.

"We came to express our hope that the local government can find a solution so that we don't lose our income. For dozens or even decades, we have really relied on income from pushing Malioboro street vendors' carts," said Kuwat Suparjono, chairman of the Malioboro Cart Pusher Association in Yogyakarta, as quoted by Antara. , Monday, February 7th.

According to him, the quick arrangement of the Malioboro street vendors (PKL) prevented the 54 members of the community from looking for other jobs apart from pushing carts.

Currently, he continued, community members can still find work at Teras Malioboro 2 by helping street vendors load their merchandise into the arrangement location or simply helping street vendors buy food. "Sometimes we get Rp. 20,000 or Rp. 50,000 a day. Not sure, but we are still grateful," he said.

However, it is possible that this work will be lost if all street vendors' merchandise is well organized.

Therefore, Kuwat and dozens of other cart drivers hope that the local government can facilitate them with stalls to sell on Teras Malioboro 1 or 2 if it is still possible. "Or, other jobs that we can do. The important thing is that we are not forgotten," he said.

The last option that is expected by the cart pushers is a helping hand from street vendors, which they have been helping like severance pay which can later be used as capital to open a business at home.

Meanwhile, Assistant Secretary for General Administration of the Yogyakarta City Government Kris Sardjono Sutedjo said that his party accepted the input from the cart pusher and would submit it to the DIY Government.

"We cannot make unilateral policies. It must be communicated with the DIY government," he said.

He said that there had been several options prepared for the empowerment of cart pushers, but they had not narrowed down to one option. "As soon as possible, we will communicate with the DIY government," he said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Yogyakarta, Haryadi Suyuti, confirmed that he would record all cart drivers in Malioboro because they have been part of supporting the tourist area.

"It will be empowered. However, it will be recorded first. Of course, what is included in the data collection is the motivator who is actually there. It doesn't mean that I am the pusher," he said.
