JAKARTA - Army Chief of Staff (Kasad) General TNI Dudung Abdurachman promised to oversee efforts to recover the Indonesian Army's Compulsory Housing Savings (TWP) fund which was corrupted by the director of finance for managing funds, a one-star general with the initials YAK.

Dudung said he plans to conduct a forensic audit to trace the flow of the corrupted funds.

"I will later ask the Head of the BKPK (Financial and Development Supervision Agency, ed), and I have communicated. I will do an audit, if necessary, a forensic audit, where are the flows of the funds, for the past 3 to 5 years," Dudung said in response to reporters' questions about the continuation of the TWP case, quoted by Antara, Monday, February 7.

He emphasized that his party was trying to get the money that was corrupted back.

“We demand that the money be returned, until the money is returned, because of the soldiers' money. I don't want to hurt the soldiers," said the Army Chief of Staff.

The case of corruption in the TWP TNI Army funds that ensnared the finance director of the TWP TNI AD Brigadier General YAK and a director of a private company with the initials NPP was transferred to court by the prosecutor's office on Saturday, February 5.

The case will be examined and tried by the Jakarta High Military Court II as stipulated in the decision of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia Number 45/KMA/SK/II/2022 on 3 February 2022.

YAK and NPP as of February 4, 2022, have the status of defendants as determined by the Chairman of the Military Judges of the Jakarta High Military Court II in letter Number: TAPHAN/01/K-AD/PMT-II/I/2022.

"The defendant Brigadier General TNI YAK is being held at the Puspomad Military Detention Center (TNI AD Military Police Center), while the defendant NPP is being held at the Salemba State Detention Center (Rutan) of the Attorney General's Office Branch," said Head of the Attorney General's Office for Legal Information Center Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak Saturday, February 5th.

TWP is a fund obtained from regular deductions of Rp. 150,000 per month from soldiers' salaries. The money was earmarked for building houses for soldiers.

The corruption case stems from the placement of TWP funds that are not in accordance with the investment provisions so that it is believed to only enrich the defendants.

As a result of the misuse of these funds, the resulting state losses are believed to reach Rp. 133.76 billion, as stated in the Report on the Calculation of State Financial Losses of the RI BPKP on December 28, 2021.
