JAKARTA - Italy on Sunday reported 77,029 new cases of COVID-19, down from 93,157 the previous day, the Italian Ministry of Health said as reported by Antara.
The number of deaths on the same day was recorded at 229, down from 375 on Saturday.
Since the pandemic in Italy began in February 2020, the country has recorded 148,771 deaths from COVID-19, the second most in Europe after the UK, and the ninth most in the world.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Italy has so far reached 11.62 million.
Hospitalized COVID-19 patients – excluding those in intensive care (ICU) – totaled 18,498 as of Sunday, down from 18,615 the previous day.
There were 105 new patients admitted to the ICU, up slightly from 104 patients on Saturday.
The total number of COVID-19 patients in the ICU increased to 1,431 people from the previous 1,411 people.
A total of 686,544 COVID-19 tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, down from 846,480 tests the previous day, the Health Ministry said.
