JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan asked the elderly over 60 years who have not been vaccinated and have comorbidities not to leave the house in the next two weeks to a month.

This is necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the midst of the current outbreak of the Omicron variant.

"I propose the next two weeks to a month for the people I mentioned earlier, the criteria are 60 years and above, it is better to stay at home first, temporarily," he said when he was virtually quoted by Antara, Saturday, February 5.

Luhut, who is also the Deputy Chair of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPC PEN) said that currently the number of COVID-19 cases was increasing.

However, he asked the public not to panic because government data showed that the treatment for the new variant was relatively short.

"For friends who are 60 years of age and over and have not been vaccinated and have comorbidities, I suggest not to leave the house," he said.

The message was emphasized because the number of cases dying from COVID-19 were generally people who had not been fully vaccinated, were over 60 years old and had comorbidities.

Luhut, who is also the coordinator of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) for Java and Bali, also advised all elements of society, including NU residents, to immediately vaccinate.

Luhut also asked the public not to take the Omicron variant lightly because of its mild symptoms and short treatment.

"However, we should not take Omicron lightly because this virus can also damage our bodies," he said.
