Consider Formula E A Political Event, Chairman Of DPRD: Investors Don't Want To Give Sponsors

JAKARTA - The chairman of the DKI DPRD, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, assessed that the Formula E event had impressed him as a political event. In a sense, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan is considered to have used Formula E for his political interests.

That's why, Prasetyo considers that no company or investor will want to provide sponsorship because they are reluctant to be dragged into the political realm.

“Entrepreneurs don't want to get involved in political noise. That's why they don't want to invest in Formula E," Prasetyo told reporters, Thursday, February 3.

Prasetyo then explained why this car racing event could be considered a political activity. This can be seen when Anies gathered seven factions in the DKI Jakarta DPRD to be absent in the Formula E Interpellation Plenary initiated by the PDI-P and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).

"After that time everything related to Formula E was a political event," he said.

It is known, previously it was revealed that until now Formula E has not received certainty of a sponsor. This makes the DPRD DKI doubtful that this electric car racing event can be held smoothly. However, the DKI Provincial Government is still confident that they are capable of running it.

Jakarta DPRD Commission B on Monday, January 24, questioned the BUMD PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) regarding the plan to organize Formula E which will be held in five months. In this commission meeting, it was revealed that Jakpro had not yet held funds for the construction of the Formula E circuit, which was rumored to have come from sponsors.

Initially, the DPRD asked about Jakpro's plan to cover the costs for the implementation. Managing Director of Formula E Jakpro, Gunung Kartiko replied, this fund will be obtained from the sponsor.

However, Gunung admitted that currently sponsorship funds to cover the lack of costs for the Formula E event have not yet arrived. He said, no sponsorship agreement has been officially made.

"We will close the plan from sponsorship and partnership. So we haven't officially opened the sponsorship yet. But verbally, it's a networking approach for those who are interested, although we can't declare (announce) here yet, because there is no black and white," explained Gunung .
