Yogyakarta City Government Will Evaluate 100 Percent PTM Implementation Because COVID-19 Cases Tend To Increase

JAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Government will evaluate the plan for implementing face-to-face learning with 100 percent capacity at all levels of education amidst the increasing trend of COVID-19 cases in the city.

"Looking at the current conditions, the plan must be reviewed and evaluated jointly by the youth and sports education offices with the health services and academics," said Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi in Yogyakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, February 1.

Previously, the Yogyakarta City Education, Youth and Sports Office planned to implement face-to-face learning with 100 percent capacity on February 7 because the vaccination program for children 6-11 years old had already been completed.

Since the face-to-face learning policy could be restarted in early January, the Yogyakarta City Government chose to do it in stages with a maximum capacity of 70 percent of students and this number continues to be added to adjust the achievement of child vaccinations.

This policy is also accompanied by the implementation of a COVID-19 examination or test to students at random 10 percent of students at school.

"From the results of the examination, it was found that one or two students were positive for COVID-19 and there was no transmission in the classroom. If you refer to these conditions, then the case can actually be controlled," he said.

However, continued Heroe, if referring to the general trend of increasing cases in the city of Yogyakarta in the last few weeks, it is necessary to evaluate the PTM implementation plan at full capacity.

"Maybe new strategies and rules are needed in the implementation of PTM in Yogyakarta City so that the distribution of cases does not increase," he said.

In addition to the rules for PTM, Heroe continued, it is also possible for the City of Yogyakarta to apply rules or tighten health protocols for various activities in the community, as a step to anticipate potential case transmission.

On Monday, January 31, 2022, in Yogyakarta City there were an additional 17 positive cases, with three patients declared cured or completed isolation.

Active cases in the city of Yogyakarta also rose to 91 cases, an increase of more than four times compared to the third weekend of January.
