Thousands Of Migrant Workers Go Home, Jokowi: Do Not Have COVID-19 Wave Two

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), ordered the ranks of the central and regional governments to monitor thousands of migrant workers returning to Indonesia. This needs to be done to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Moreover, said the former governor of DKI Jakarta, there are still thousands of migrant workers who are still returning to Indonesia. For that, strict supervision must be done. This is so that the second stage of the virus does not spread in the country.

"From the reports I received, 89 thousand migrant workers have returned from abroad and this will increase by 16 thousand," Jokowi said when opening a limited meeting on handling COVID-19 broadcast on YouTube, the Cabinet Secretariat, Monday, April 4.

In addition, the President asked his staff to pay attention to other clusters that also have the potential to spread COVID-19. Some of the clusters that Jokowi mentioned are the Gowa cluster, the homecoming seepage cluster, and the industrial cluster.

The Gowa cluster is those who contracted COVID-19 after making contact or after returning from the 2020 World Ulama Itjima activity which was held some time ago in Gowa, South Sulawesi.

Because, even though at that time the event was canceled, hundreds of foreign nationals (WNA) from various countries and thousands of Indonesians had already gathered at the location of the event.

With regard to industrial clusters, Jokowi then ordered his staff to carry out field checks. The goal is that the industry that is currently running actually has implemented health protocols.

"We must ensure which industries are allowed to operate and must be checked in the field whether they are implementing strict health protocols or not," he concluded.
