Ministry Of Transportation: Peak Of The Movement Of Christmas Holiday Passengers Occurs On December 22, 2024
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) noted that the peak movement of domestic and international airplane passengers for the 2024 Christmas holiday occurred on December 22 reaching 301,488 passengers, an increase of 3.92 percent compared to the peak movement of aircraft in 2023.
The cumulative number of domestic passenger movements, from 18 to 25 December 2024, is 1,839,552 people. This figure is up 2.6 percent compared to the same period in 2023 and is still dynamic until the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru) transportation periods are completed on 5 January 2025.
Head of the Communication and Public Information Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation Budi Rahardjo said the increase in the number of aircraft passenger movements was in line with the government's policy to reduce ticket prices by 10 percent for 16 days during the Nataru transportation period.
"The government has lowered the price of aircraft tickets to reduce the burden on the community. The effect can be seen from the data on passenger movements," he said in an official statement, Friday, December 27.
Meanwhile, continued Budi, based on data collected at the 2024 Christmas and New Year 2025 Transportation Center Command Posts, it is known that there is a tendency to decrease in other modes, namely road transportation with an accumulative number of passengers of 89,363 people. This figure is down 30 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
The same thing happened to ferry transportation. As of December 26, 2024 at 06.00 WIB, the cumulative number of passengers was 1,036,943 people. This figure is down 32 percent compared to the same period in the previous year," he explained.
In the train mode, continued Budi, the cumulative number of passengers is 2,681,063 people. This figure is down 0.02 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
Furthermore, Budi said the decline also occurred in sea transportation modes. As of the cumulative number of passengers is 711,441 people. This decline rate decreased by 8.6 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

Until Christmas Day, the cumulative number of each mode showed a decline, except for air transportation which had increased. However, this number is still ongoing," said Budi.
Based on the results of a survey by the Transportation Policy Agency, it is predicted that there is still a possibility of a peak departure flow ahead of the new year on January 1, 2025.
For this reason, all ranks involved in the implementation of the 2024/2025 Nataru transportation are still wary of developments in the field. Moreover, according to the prediction of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), there is the potential for bad weather during the 2024/2025 Nataru implementation period.
