Bantul Police Prohibits People From Playing Firecrackers Or Mercons On New Year's Eve

BANTUL - Yogyakarta Special Region Bantul Police prohibits people from sounding firecrackers or firecrackers during New Year's Eve celebrations from 2024 to 2025 in this district jurisdiction.

"Regarding firecrackers, we emphasize that firecrackers are prohibited from carrying out New Year's Eve celebrations," said Bantul Police Chief AKBP Michael R Risakotta in his statement in Bantul, Antara, Sunday, December 22.

This is in accordance with Bantul Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 4 of 2018 concerning the Implementation of Public Peace and Order, which contains a ban on selling, buying, ringing, distributing firecrackers for the sake of mutual security and safety.

Therefore, he said, people in Bantul Regency should not turn on firecrackers for the sake of mutual security and safety.

"Moreover, there have been many accidents due to firecrackers ranging from injuries to even death. So we strictly prohibit and anyone selling firecrackers will be dealt with firmly, including on New Year's Eve," he said.

However, said the Police Chief, the use of fireworks for New Year's Eve celebrations is still allowed. "What is allowed is fireworks, but the use must also have a permit, because you have to see the location," he said.

He further said that in securing the 2025 Christmas and New Year holidays, the Bantul Police deployed 479 personnel, consisting of Polri personnel assisted by TNI ranks, local governments and volunteers.

"The Bantul Police also established three security posts and an integrated post. Security posts were established in the Sedayu area, Piyungan and the Parangtritis tourist area, while the Integrated Post was at the Druwo intersection," he said.
