Being A Public Spotlight, PDIP Asks For The National Gallery To Reopen Yos Suprapto's Painting Exhibition

JAKARTA - Member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDIP faction, totaling Triyana asked the National Gallery to reopen the painting exhibition by artist Yos Suprapto entitled "Revival: Land for Food Sovereignty".

The opening of the exhibition, which was originally scheduled to be held on Thursday, December 19, was suddenly canceled by the National Gallery. In this regard, there are five paintings of Yos that provoke controversy because the object of the painting resembles the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.

According toction, some of Yos Suprapto's paintings that became polemics have also been spread on social media. So, it is only natural that the exhibition is open to the public.

"The National Gallery should be after this discussion becomes news, just open it. Tonight, it will be opened tomorrow, it will be crowded. We will become a healthy and class-enhanced nation. We will advance to class, lah," saidOKin in a discussion in Cikini, Central Jakarta, Sunday, 22 December.

Badminton also urged the National Gallery not to remove all the paintings that have been displayed for display. Then, let the public interpret the meaning of the painting which is considered controversial.

"Let the community discuss this artwork based on interpretation, their respective knowledge. So, I think just open it up," he said.

On the one hand,men assessed that the awarding of the Yos Suprapto painting exhibition was not on the orders of President Prabowo Subianto. According to haphazardly, it is impossible for a person who understands art like Prabowo to carry out a raid on a work that has become a social criticism of artists.

"For Mr. Prabowo, if we look at him, he likes art. So who is this? That's the question, right? Who made it, then the painting was taken down?" he said.

The painting by Yos Suprapto entitled Revival: Land for Food Sovereignty was stopped by the Jakarta National Gallery on Thursday, December 19. Visitors are prohibited from seeing the painting exhibition which is planned to open for the next month.

Yos explained, before the exhibition was canceled, the curator appointed by the National Gallery, Suwarno Wisetrotomo, had asked five Yos paintings interpreted as Jokowi, among 30 paintings, to be taken down.

Feeling objected, Yos said that if the five were lowered, he would cancel the exhibition as a whole. His work will also be brought back to Yogyakarta.

"I don't want to deal with the National Gallery and the Ministry of Culture anymore," said Yos.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian National Gallery explained that the delay was taken after the exhibition curator, Suwarno Wisetrotomo, chose to resign due to disagreements between the curator and the artist.
