Overcoming Lower Back Pain With Lumur Disc Replacement Treatment

JAKARTA - The health problems related to the spine, especially in the lumbar or waist, are often complaints from many people.

Lower back pain, difficulty moving, as well as numbness or weakness in the legs are symptoms that often arise from disorders in the spinal disk (dumbar disk).

Along with advances in medical technology, the Lumur Disc Replacement (LDR) method can be an effective treatment option to address these problems.

Lumur Disc Replacement (LDR) is a surgical procedure aimed at replacing damaged or aus spinal disks with artificial implants. This procedure is designed to maintain the natural movement of the spine and reduce pain arising from problems with the disk.

In contrast to the spinal fusion procedure, which combines two spines so that the movement becomes limited, LDR allows patients to maintain a normal range of motion in the operated area.

"The implant used is made of biocompatible materials with a human body, such as metal or durable plastic," explained dr. Harmantya Mahadhipta, Sp.OT (K) Spine, Specialist orthopedic & Traumatology-Consultant of Tulang Behind Eka Hospital BSD.

The advantage of the LDR procedure is its ability to maintain the natural motion of the spine, which in turn reduces the risk of excess burden on other spinal segments. Thus, damage to a healthy disk can be minimized. In addition, the post-operational recovery process is generally faster than fusion procedures.

Some medical conditions that can require LDR procedures include:

Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)

This degenerative disease in the spinal disc occurs due to the process of aging, injury, or repeated pressure that causes damage to the disk. This condition often causes lower back pain that can spread to the legs (sciatica).

Henia Nucleus Puposus (HNP)

Henia's disk occurs when the inner part of the disk (nucleus pulposes) stands out through a torn outer layer, thus putting pressure on the spinal cord. This can cause pain, numbness, or weakness in the leg. Patients with repeated disk hernia or permanent damage to the disk can require replacing the disc with artificial implants.

Lumbanese Spondylosis

Spondylosis is a degenerate arthritis that affects the disk and spine joints, causes chronic pain and movement restrictions. In some cases, especially those accompanied by radiculopathy (pressure on nerves), LDR can be a treatment option if the pain comes from a damaged disk, without spinal instability.

Although LDR is effective for overcoming some spinal cord disorders, this procedure is not recommended for patients with conditions such as osteoporosis, spinal infection, or other structural problems in the spine.

"With this procedure, patients have the opportunity to restore their daily activities with minimal pain and optimal mobility," said doctor Harmantya.
