JAKARTA - Kaspersky's detection system found an average of 467,000 malicious files per day by 2024, marking an increase of 14% compared to the previous year.

In fact, certain types of threats experienced significant growth with experts reporting a 33% spike in Trojan detection compared to 2023.

"The number of new threats increases every year as attackers continue to develop new malware, techniques, and methods to attack users and organizations," Vladimir Kuskov, Head of Anti-Malware Research at Kaspersky.

In this report, the global cybersecurity company found that Windows continues to be the main target of cyberattacks, covering 93% of all data containing malware detected daily.

The most widespread type of malware is Trojans, a malicious program disguised as legitimate software, with a 33% spike from 2023 to 2024.

There was also a 2.5-fold increase (150%) in the use of Trojan-droppers, a program designed to send other malware to victims' computers or cellphones without the victim realizing it.

In addition, Vladimir also mentioned massive phishing and malicious campaigns targeting social media users and increasing banking malware also continue to haunt. No exception is the use of AI tools to produce new malware or facilitate phishing attacks.

"In this ever-evolving cyber threat landscape, the use of reliable security solutions is essential to ensure secure online experiences for users as well as strong cybersecurity and the latest threat intelligence for organizations," he said.
