This Year's Last Full Moon Will Be A 'Cold Moon'

JAKARTA The full moon, a phenomenon that occurs when the moon is opposite the Sun and Earth is in the middle, will occur again on Sunday, December 15 at around 16.02 WIB.

"This will happen on Saturday night from Alaskan Time to the west to the International Date Line. The moon will be full moon for about three days around this time, from Friday night to Monday morning, so this weekend is the full Moon weekend," NASA said in its report.

Entering December, the full moon will be called a cold moon according to the name Maine Farmers' Almanak. This name is given because the full moon occurs on a long night in winter. Therefore, another name is the Frozen Moon.

The full moon will reach its highest point when the Moon's orbital plane that surrounds Earth is almost the same as the Earth's orbital plane that surrounds the Sun. When this happens, the Sun's trajectory looks lower and the full moon's trajectory is late opposite the Sun.

According to NASA records, the Washington, DC region can see the full moon from Saturday night to Sunday morning, to be precise from December 14 to 15. That way, the total moon in the sky will reach 16 hours and 1 minute at an altitude of 79.0 degrees.

From Sunday night to Monday morning, namely December 15 to 16, the full moon will be in the sky slightly longer and will reach a higher position in the sky. The moon will be in the sky for 16 hours 3 minutes with an altitude of 79.2 degrees.

The full moon of December also has other names that are quite diverse, such as the moon before Yule or the moon.
