Girimukti Sukabumi Elementary School Classroom Collapses In Rain Accompanied By Strong Winds
SUKABUMI - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, reported that one unit of the Girimukti SDN classroom located in Cihamerang Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java collapsed due to extreme weather that hit the area, especially since the construction was also rotten.
"There were no casualties or injuries, because the incident occurred during school holidays or on Sunday, (5/11) at around 14.30 WIB. The fourth grade room collapsed because the weathered building was added to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds," said Public Relations of the Sukabumi Regency BPBD. Sandra Fitria was quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 6.
Information gathered from the Sukabumi Regency BPBD, the collapse of a classroom at SDN Girimukti in Kabandungan Village/District started with heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.
It is suspected that many of the class buildings have been porous and weathered, plus it has not been repaired for a long time, it is no longer able to withstand the strong gusts of wind when it rains heavily which eventually collapsed.
The collapse of this class building was discovered after residents heard a rumbling sound from inside Girimukti Elementary School, after seeing it turned out that the IV classroom had collapsed which was then reported to the Kabandungan District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK).

Not long after, P2BK personnel together with Bhabinkamtibma, Babinsa and Kabandungan Village officials arrived at the location to work together to clean up the rubble of the scattered buildings.
The Sukabumi District Education Office on Monday, (6/11) conducted a review, for IV students whose classrooms collapsed, they were temporarily transferred to other classes so that teaching and learning activities (KBM) would not be disrupted.
