PVMBG Records 2 Eruptions On Mount Ili Lewotolok
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) noted that there had been two eruptions in the form of volcanic ash coming out of the crater of Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara.
Gunung Observation Post officer, Stanislaus Ara Kian, said the eruption occurred at 08.49 WITA and 17.37 WITA.
"The volcanic ash column is gray with moderate to thick intensity leaning towards the west and northwest," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, October 23.
Stanislaus reported that the first eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 32.9 millimeters and a duration of 173 seconds. The height of the eruption reached approximately 400 meters from the top of the volcano.
Then, the second eruption was also recorded through a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 30.2 millimeters and a duration of 40 seconds. The eruption reached a height of approximately 600 meters.
From January 1 to October 23, 2023, Mount Ili Lewotolok is the most frequent volcano with 75 eruptions.
The second volcano that is also active in the eruption is Mount Anak Krakatau with a total of 62 eruptions recorded. Then, the third position is Mount Ibu with 46 eruptions.

PVMBG asks people in Lamawolo Village, Lamatokan Village, and Jontona Village to always be aware of the potential threat of danger from avalanches and lava avalanches and hot clouds from the eastern part of the crater of Mount Ili Lewotolok.
The public is also asked to use mouth and nose protection masks as well as other equipment that can protect the eyes and skin to avoid respiratory problems and other health problems due to volcanic ash.
PVMBG reminds people living around valleys or rivers that originate at the top of Mount Ili Lewotolok to be aware of the potential threat of lava hazards that can occur, especially during the rainy season.
