Has An EBT Potential Of Nearly 4,000 GW, Indonesia Has Just Taken Advantage Of 12.7 GW
JAKARTA - Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi revealed that Indonesia has the potential for New and Renewable Energy (EBT) up to 3687 Gigawatts (GW). Despite having great potential, the use of EBT in Indonesia has only touched 12.7 GW.
"It is still small compared to our potential of almost 4000 GW of our potential. There is still a lot of potential for us to come in the next few decades," Yudo said in his presentation at the Tripatra Engineering Summit, Friday, October 13.
With this high potential, Yudo continued, Indonesia still has great potential to increase the clean energy mix. For this reason, he said, it is necessary to support the downward trend in the cost of EBT development, investment costs for the development of EBT, including integration costs. He also hopes that the price will be cheaper and can compete with Steam Power Plants (PLTU) that are already operating.
According to him, Indonesia has the potential for a large, widespread and diverse EBT to support national energy security and achieve the energy mix target. The EBT potential includes solar spread throughout the NTT, West Kalimantan and Riau regions which have higher radiation with a potential of 3294 GW and only 323 MW have been utilized. Furthermore, hydro spread throughout Indonesia, especially North Kalimantan, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Papua, which has a potential of 95 GW and has only been utilized by 6,738 MW.
"The bioenergy spread throughout Indonesia is good in the form of utam products, forestry land waste, industrial waste. The types of potential include biofuels, biomass and biogas which have just been utilized by 3118 MW from the potential 57GW," Yudo continued.

Furthermore, the wind is mainly in NTT, South Kalimantan, West Java, South Sulawesi, Aceh and Papua which have the potential of 155 GW and has only been utilized by 154 MW. Then the geothermal spread in the ring of fire area includes Sumatra, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi and Yogyakarta which have only been utilized by 2373 MW of the potential of 23 GW.
Finally, the sea spread throughout Indonesia, especially DI Yogyakarta, NTT, NTB and Bali with a total potential of 63 GW and has not been utilized at all.
