JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian officially inaugurated Agus Fatoni as Acting Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel) and Akmal Malik as Acting Governor of East Kalimantan (Kaltim).

The inauguration is based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 87/P of 2023 concerning the appointment of the acting governor. The procession took place at the Sasana Bhakti Praja (SBP) building of the Head Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Jakarta, Monday, October 2.

"The mechanism for appointing the Acting Governor is directly led by the president as the leader of the Final Appraisal Team session and also through a fairly long process," said the Minister of Home Affairs as quoted by ANTARA.

The Minister of Home Affairs explained the inauguration of the two acting governors as a consequence of the presence of Law (UU) Number 10 of 2016.

This regulation contains the rule that the end of the term of office of the provincial regional head before the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada will be filled by the Acting Governor. The Minister of Home Affairs said that the appointment of the Acting Minister had been carried out in accordance with applicable rules and mechanisms.

In this mechanism, Acting Governor is determined through a session of the Final Assessment Team (TPA) led by the president and involves a number of ministries/agencies, including the Ministry of State Secretariat, Ministry of PAN-RB, Cabinet Secretariat, State Civil Service Agency, State Intelligence Agency, and other ministries/agencies as needed. Through the TPA trial then the Acting Governor was determined.

The Minister of Home Affairs congratulated the Acting Governor of South Sumatra and East Kalimantan. He asked both of them to carry out their duties properly. Moreover, it was previously known that both Agus Fatoni and Akmal Malik had experience in carrying out their duties as Acting Governor.

Fatoni is known to have served as Acting Governor of North Sulawesi (Sulut) for 3 months, while Akmal has also served as Acting Governor of West Sulawesi (Sulbar) for 12 months.

Fatoni is a High Official of the Ministry of Home Affairs who serves as Director General (Dirjen) of Regional Finance Development (Keuda), while Akmal serves as Director General of Regional Autonomy (Otda) of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"So I hope the two of them can complete their duties properly," he hoped.
