Warteg Bahari That Exploded In Gambir And Killed 3 People, Triggered By The Government's 3 Kg Gas Cylinder Problem

JAKARTA - The fire that hit the Tegal stall restaurant (warteg) and the photocopy shop house (ruko) in the Gambir area, Central Jakarta, was caused by a leak of 3 kg gas cylinders subsidized by the government.

The gas cylinder was leaking when the victim died, Karyati (38) and her husband, Slamet Wahyudi (42), were installing gas cylinder regulators.

"The witness had seen that they (a number of victims) were preparing to install a stove, a 3 kg gas cylinder. Earlier we saw the same position as shown by the witness, this is the beginning of the fire that burned these 2 buildings," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Komarudin to reporters at the scene, Thursday, September 28.

According to several eyewitnesses to the incident, they heard the sound of an explosion accompanied by a burst of fire.

"The information we got started with the sound of an explosion. After that, residents tried to extinguish the fire using water in the form of its levels. After that the fire department fell," he said.

Regarding the explosion of a subsidized 3 kg LPG gas cylinder, Central Jakarta Metro Police investigators will conduct an investigation.

"We will definitely investigate it. Therefore, we will secure the expert who explored what factors made the gas cylinder explode," he said.

In addition, from the information of Iyus (31), the shopkeeper, he heard the sound of an explosion before the fire devoured the marine warteg. He said, the gas inside the shop leaked so that it exploded when it was turned on.

"Hearing the sound of exploded, I think the gas was leaking, it wasn't caught. Once it exploded, it spread everything," he said.
