JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham), Yasonna H. Laoly explained that the 61st AALCO annual session which will soon be held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) will be a big moment for Indonesia to appear at the international level.
"According to the President's direction, Indonesia, in this case the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, will host the 61st AALCO annual session which will be held on October 15-20 2023 and is expected to be opened by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo," said Yasonna, as quoted from the portal of the Director General of AHU, Sunday afternoon, September 28.
To prepare for the activity, Yasonna held a meeting attended by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar, officials within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, representatives of the Bali Provincial Government, Bali Provincial Forkopimda, and related Ministries/Institutions.
Yasonna assessed that AALCO is an Asia-Africa state consulting forum to equalize perceptions and positions in various legal issues in order to gain a common position to be delivered in various international meetings including the United Nations.
Yasonna also added that in this 61st annual session, there are 5 agendas that will be discussed in the trial, one of which is getting Indonesia's attention, especially in the sea law agenda on the issue of illegal fishing.
Indonesia proposes the issuance of illegal fishing issues which are currently still being debated with neighboring countries such as the Philippines and Vietnam. With the discussion of illegal fishing issues in this annual session, it is hoped that there will be a common view of illegal fishing so that it can be agreed as a transnational organized crime," he added.
As the host of the 61st AALCO annual session, Yasonna also asked the relevant Ministries or institutions present at the preparation meeting to be able to support and participate both in the main events and side events that have been prepared by Indonesia to discuss the latest issues in the field of law and cyberspace.
"The Indonesian government is proposing to establish an Asset Recovery Forum for AALCO angota countries that are victims of corruption and money laundering, which is expected to consist of experienced and competent parties in efforts to seize foreign jurisdictional assets," explained the Minister of Law and Human Rights regarding one side event, Asset Recovery.
