What Is FBAS Technology: Anti-Smell Technology Used By Pekanbaru IPAL

YOGYAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Cipta Karya is finalizing the construction of Wastewater Treatment Instalantion (IPAL) to improve the quality of sanitation services in Pekanbaru City.

Launching from the PUPR ministry website, the IPAL targeted for completion in August 2023 is the final session of the Pekanbaru City Metropolitan Management Investment Project (MSMIP) program with the aim of making Pekanbaru City healthy and clean.

Director of Sanitation of the Directorate General of Human Settlements Tanozisochi Lase said the construction of the Pekanbaru City IPAL using Fixed-Bed Biofilm Activated Sludge (FBAS), is a wastewater treatment process with a plant-based bacterial medium and an artificial base ( biomodule). Pekanbaru City IPAL uses Fixed-Bed Biofilm Activated Sludge technology or abbreviated by FBAS where the plant-root and biomodule-shaped media plays a role as a breeding ground for microorganisms that will outline wastewater before being channeled into the Siak River.

This technology will later be in the form of a page and equipped with a odor damping unit. So that residents around IPAL will not be constrained by the smell produced," explained Tanozisochi when accompanying the activities of the Commission V Recess (Kunker) of the DPR RI to the position of IPAL Pekanbaru City, Friday (14/07/23).

The IPAL with a capacity of 8.100 m3/day is planned to serve 11.000 house connections. The construction of this Urban Scale IPAL has begun in December 2020 and at this time the physical progress has reached 94%. IPAL development cooperates with PT PP- PJL service provider, KSO, which is expected when domestic wastewater is operating from households and commercial areas no longer pollutes water or groundwater bodies in Pekanbaru City.

Deputy Chairman of Commission V DPR RI Muhammad Iqbal, who is also the leader of the Kunker Reses group, hopes that the construction of the Pekanbaru City IPAL can be completed quickly. "I am very happy to see that this IPAL facility is hopefully a pilot for other cities so that our area is maintained, our river is always clean and we hope that this IPAL work can be completed so that residents can quickly use it. they can always enjoy clean river water," hoped Iqbal.

On the same occasion, the Pekanbaru City Secretary, Indra Pomi, appreciated the central government for the IPAL construction. "We thank the central government for the construction that the PUPR Ministry has tried, with the construction of this IPAL, we want this city to be clean, there is no domestic waste that pollutes the area and septitank that pollutes the wells, so that all waste enters this installation," said Indra.

Indra also stated that his team had prepared a Wastewater Processing Regional Regulation and set an operational tariff. "After this IPAL is submitted to Pekanbaru City Government through the Regional Public Service Agency, we are trying to make this IPAL operational for a minimum of 3000 SR, God willing, it will be achieved. After that, in the next one to 2 years, I ask for assistance from the PUPR Department in the context of maintaining or operational this activity," concluded Indra.
