COVID-19 Assistance Corruption Case In Aru Islands, Prosecutor Demands 3 Defendants 4 Years In Prison
The prosecutor demanded a sentence of four years in prison for three defendants suspected of corruption in the budget for the procurement of goods/services for handling the COVID-19 disaster at the Aru Islands Food Security Service for the 2020 fiscal year.
The three are Clements Retob as Commitment Making Officer (PPK), Djemy Haryanto, and Maryam Golam. The defendants were also required to pay a fine of Rp. 200 million, subsidiary to one year in prison.
"Asking the panel of judges who examined and tried this case to declare the defendant guilty of violating Article 2 paragraph (1) of Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the eradication of corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code," said the Public Prosecutor (JPU) in a virtual trial in Ambon, Monday 31 July, confiscated by Antara.
The prosecutor revealed things that incriminate the demands of the three defendants because they do not support the government's program in eradicating corruption, collusion, and nepotism.
Meanwhile, mitigating the defendants had been polite, had never been convicted, had family responsibilities, and had returned more than Rp290 million in state financial losses.
The defendant's legal counsel, Wahyu Ingratubun and Marnex Salmon in their defense admitted that they objected and asked the panel of judges to release the defendant from all demands of the prosecutor.
The panel of judges postponed the trial until Wednesday, August 2, with the agenda of hearing the prosecutor's replica on the defense of the defendants' legal advisory team.
