Reddit Redam Angers Its Users By Launching Free Official Badges For Verified Accounts
JAKARTA - Reddit decided to enter the verification competition, by launching a new 'Resmi' label displayed on several accounts to sign they have been verified.
"Starting today, we are starting initial testing to place visual indicators on specific profiles," Reddit said in a statement on its official website, quoted Thursday, July 27.
The company explains that the feature serves as proof of authenticity, reduces impersonation, and increases transparency across its platforms.
Unfortunately, not all businesses can try out this feature. Reddit has just introduced it to a number of selected accounts, especially those who have relationships with the company.
"Currently it is only available for a very small (dual-digit) profile of organizations that already have ties to us, and are interested in engaging with redditors and communities on our platform," explained Reddit.
The selected profile will have an Official label that appears next to their username, similar to how Flair appears in the subreddit.
Citing Slashgear, Thursday, July 27, the striking difference between the official Reddit badge and verified blue ticks on other social media platforms is that there are no additional features or prices for subscriptions.
As previously reported, Reddit recently received many protests from third party developers and its users due to the implementation of its new Application Programming Interface (API) policy.
The rule basically closes the door to third-party mobile apps and volunteer-based jobs. Shortly enforced, thousands of subreddits later went dark as a protest.
