Falling Asleep, Elderly In Bulungan Kaltara Burned To Death

BULUNGAN - Allegedly due to an electrical short, two houses in Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan, were burned down on Tuesday, July 25. An 80-year-old elderly person was reportedly killed in the fire accident.

The fire that hit these two residents' houses occurred in Tanah Kuning Village, Tanjung Palas Timur District, Bulungan Regency. The incident occurred at around 00.00 WITA.

Kapolresta Bulungan, Kombes Pol Agus Nugraha explained, the emergence of the flames that immediately grew had made local residents panic, because at the time of the incident, most residents were fast asleep.

The location of the fire was far away and difficult to reach, forcing local residents to extinguish the fire with makeshift equipment. As a result, the flames could only be extinguished more than an hour later.

The two houses that burned down belonged to two elderly people, namely Bahri (60) and also Jamaluddin (80).

When the flames began to grow, Bahri managed to save himself from the flames, while Jamaluddin, who was suspected of being fast asleep, did not have time to save himself so he was found dead due to being roasted in the flames.

Agus Nugraha said that in the fire accident, one elderly person had killed. "Yes, that's right, so the victim who died has the initials J, who is 80 years old," Agus said in his statement, Wednesday, July 26.

According to him, the exact cause of the fire that resulted in one person being burned to death, is still being investigated by the Bulungan Police Inafis team.

"Regarding the cause of the fire, we are still investigating, we have sent Inafis to the location to investigate the fire," he added.

Meanwhile, now after undergoing a post-mortem, the victim's body was immediately buried in the public cemetery of Tanah Kuning Village.
