Angkot Was Hit By A Train, Illegal Crossing On The Depok-Citayam Cross Was Closed By PT KAI
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) closed illegal crossings in the Jakarta Operation Area (Daop) 1 working area, precisely at KM 35+4/5 across Depok-Citayam following the incident of being hit by a public transport car.
"The closure of illegal crossings is a form of KAI's support to realize safety and security," said Jakarta Daop 1 Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 16.
Previously, a public transport car was hit by a KRL from the direction of Bogor and dragged 50 meters after the chassis of the car was caught on the rail. There were no fatalities in the incident because the driver had time to save himself just before the train passed.
"Daop 1 Jakarta appeals to all people and motorists not to move around the rail line, not to make illegal crossings to pass and use official crossings and comply with traffic rules and signs installed when going through railroad crossings," he explained.
Drivers who will go through official level crossings are also advised to be careful while still paying attention to the right and left sides when passing to ensure that no train will pass through the crossing.
"In addition, four-wheeled drivers are also advised to open the window glass when going through a railroad crossing so that their views and ears are not blocked and do not use cell phones while driving and do not break through the crossing when the siren has sounded," he added.
In addition, the lack of awareness of motorists obeying the rules at level crossings is the main factor in accidents.
"As for motorists who go through level crossings, they should follow the rules for safety and security together as regulated in laws and government regulations," he said.
