Alert, Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption As High As 2,000 Meters
JAKARTA - Mount Anak Krakatau, which is in the southern waters of Sundanese, South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, has erupted again by throwing volcanic ash as high as 2,000 meters.
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the eruption occurred on Saturday, at 04.23 WIB.
"The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 60 millimeters and a duration of approximately four minutes," said PVMBG Head Hendra Gunawan as confiscated by Antara.
He revealed that the monitoring officer for Mount Anak Krakatau did not hear the sound of the explosion from the eruption activity.
The closest settlement to Mount Krakatau Children is on Sibesi Island, which is 16.5 kilometers from Anak Island, Krakatau.
"The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the northwest," he said.
Throughout Friday (9/6), PVMBG recorded seven eruptions that came out of the active crater of Mount Anak Krakatau. The eruption conditions vary with heights ranging from 500-3,000 meters starting from 00.00-24.00 WIB.
The eruption was accompanied by an earthquake that was recorded on a seismogram with an amplitude of 29-75 millimeters and an earthquake of 25-802 seconds.
PVMBG stated that Mount Anak Krakatau, which has a height of 157 meters above sea level, is currently still at level III or on standby, since April 24, 2022 until now.
PVMBG recommends that people, visitors, tourists, and climbers not approach the volcano or move within a five-kilometer radius of the active crater to avoid the danger of eruption.
